Digital MRI Scan

A Digital MRI Scan is a noninvasive medical test that provides images of the soft tissues, like organs and muscles, within the body. The images are created using a magnetic field along with radio waves and a computer.

Certainly! Here’s a detailed explanation of the Digital MRI Scan procedure and the necessary preparations:

Digital MRI Scan Preparations

Wearing a Gown: You will be provided with a gown to wear during the scan.

Metal Objects and Digital MRI Scanners: As Digital MRI Scanners use powerful magnets, no metal objects should be present inside the scanner.

Remove all metal jewelry and accessories before the scan.

Metal Inside the Body: Individuals with metal objects inside their body (such as bullets, shrapnel, cochlear implants, pacemakers, etc.) cannot undergo a Digital MRI Scan.

Contrast Liquid (Gadolinium): Some Digital MRI Scans use an injection of contrast agent (gadolinium) to enhance tissues visibility. Blood test report of serum creatinine will be needed; it can be done on immediate basis by doing blood test at our hospital 45 min before the scan.

Inform the technologists if you have any previous allergies or kidney problems.

Claustrophobia: If you are claustrophobic, let the doctor know.

They may recommend a mild sedative to make the procedure more comfortable.

Pregnancy Considerations: Women should always inform their doctor and technologist if they are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

There might be a risk to the fetus during a Digital MRI Scan, so precautions are necessary.

For abdomen and MRCP studies 4 hours of fasting is required.

Digital MRI Scan Procedure

1. Entering the Digital MRI Scanning Room:

When you arrive for your MRI, the technician or doctor will guide you to the scanning room.

You’ll be asked to lie down on the MRI table.

2. Digital MRI Scanner Setup:

The Digital MRI Scanner is a short cylinder that is open from both sides.

Depending on the body part being scanned, you’ll enter the scanner either from the head or feet.

A computer operates the Digital MRI Scanner, but it’s placed in a separate room to avoid interference from the magnetic field generated by the machine.

The qualified radiology technician will communicate with you via an intercom to ensure your comfort and guide you through the process.

3. Contrast Material (In MRI with Contrast):

Sometimes, a contrast material (such as gadolinium or iodine) is injected intravenously during the MRI exam.

This contrast enhances the visibility of specific tissues.

Additional images may be taken after the injection.

4. Completing the Digital MRI Scan:

Once the scan is complete, you may need to wait briefly while the radiologist reviews the images.

The technologist will remove your IV (Intravenous) line if one was used during the procedure.

The entire MRI process typically takes approx. 30 min to 1 hour, depending on the parts studied.

All reports will be returned to you, and the collection time will be communicated.
