Oncology is a branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. A doctor who has specialized training in diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy and targeted therapy is referred to as a Medical Oncologist.

A medical oncologist often is the main health care provider for a person who is diagnosed with cancer. He/she also provides supportive care and may be involved in the coordination of treatment given by other specialists. However, the support and care also includes overseeing patient’s lives after the treatment.
